What is the Fringe?

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the single biggest celebration of arts and culture on the planet. For three weeks in August, the city of Edinburgh welcomes an explosion of creative energy from around the globe.

Thousands of performers take to hundreds of stages all over the city to present shows for every taste. From big names in the world of entertainment to unknown artists looking to build their careers, the festival caters for everyone and includes theatre, comedy, dance, physical theatre, circus, cabaret, children's shows, musicals, opera, music, spoken word, exhibitions and events.

When does the Fringe take place?

The 2020 Fringe will not go ahead as planned in August due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Based on the information currently available, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe will go ahead in 2021.

We will take our lead from official guidance and continue to plan for the 2021 Fringe with the health and safety of our participants and audiences in mind. The dates for 2021 are provisionally set as 06 to 30 August.
